Conversation.org

With the at most and gratifying sensation that this club offers the outstanding opportunity to create an English atmosphere for the English language lovers and speakers alike. At last, Santarém has what it takes to promote English speaking for students and non-students. Therefore, this spot gathers everyone eager enough to celebrate the feast that is to communicate herein and elsewhere, only in English.

Welcome to Conversation.org. The first conversation club from Santarém - Pará. A spot where all you have to do is to speak English. Here you don't have to be from an English course, unless you speak well (accepting intermediate level speakers). Represented mainly by Escola de Inglês Prof. Flávio Serique and CCAA students, this club receives English speakers from all over the world (native or non-native) for a month meeting on fridays at 6:30 p.m.

Second Semester - Second session

Share |

24/09/2010. Once more we've received new guests and had our usual two-hour talk from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. The guests we invited were three. The two first ones were a couple who's been living in Santarém for 18 years and are also English teachers. Their names are Dan and Brenda Caldwell and they are missionaries teaching English at Batista School twice a week with two different groups, using extracts of the Bible to start their dicussions in English. Our third guest is European, precisely from Barcelona-Spain. That's Laura, she's the newest CCAA Spanish teacher and used to work in Ireland. She lived there for 9 years and worked for the private sector of Hewlet Packard International Bank - a branch of Hewlet Packard. She's a Tax Specialist in VAT (Value Added Tax) and has also given her contribution for the evening.

The second session

On this session (April/2010) which took place once again at CCAA's snack bar known as "Pub" and as usual on friday at 6:30 p.m. had the loving presence of our first members as well as new ones. The latter only learned of the first session through gossip and announcements stuck on CCAA glasses and, of course, from the English teachers -Vitor Carvalho and Helton Tavares. The guests were all American missionaries from two different churches. The first one - Claire - was an American missionary whose Portuguese is impecable and is constantly visiting communities around the Tapajós river. She lived in Santarém when she was only fifteen and at this time she came along with her parents. Eager to come back to Brazil, she's here with an improved Portuguse and 25 years old. She is the blond girl on the right-hand side on the first photo.
The last guests were from the Mormon church and they were brought by Odinelson, the current English teacher from Escola de Inglês Professor Flávio Serique. They became the centre of attention for some time and talked about themselves, their experiences around the country and here in Santarém and answered lots of questions from the club members.

THE FIRST MEETING

Share |

In march this year (2010) initiated our very first conversation meeting with special guests to welcome and be welcomed on such delightful 6:00pm to 7:00pm session. Students and ex-students from both schools - CCAA and Escola de Inglês Flávio Serique -gathered around on a friendly environment at CCAA's snack bar and receiving nearly 20 people. We received a Danish-Swiss guest Renier, who, despite all his extensive wealth and age, knowns no limits to accomplish his journeys around the world and work as a dentistst-volunteer. He has been to all continents and has come to Santarém and worked for Fundação Esperança a zillion times. Last but not least, our American (who's become more Brazilian than American) Steven Alexander ,who performed a great and grateful talk, was accompanied by his wife and also celebrating their wedding anniversary.
